Apps by Annie

The beginning of something new is always a unique life experience. This absolutely strikes home when it comes to pregnancy. Every new mother is curious to know about the process. That’s why we prepared a series about the weeks of pregnancy.

After the periods:

between week one to week four

between weeks five through eight

between weeks nine and twelve

and between thirteen and sixteen

… let’s continue with weeks 17 through 20.

Week 17

The fifth month of your pregnancy is coming. You baby has grown segments on his fingers and he plays around with them a lot. You baby has acquired reflexes such as swallowing, blinking and sucking and can even experience hiccups.

You should be gaining weight regularly and you probably already had to switch to maternity clothing to accommodate your growing stomach. Some women may feel a strong sex drive during this time due to more pregnancy hormones.

Week 18

Your baby is more active than before. He is moving, kicking, turning etc. The size is somewhere between 12,5 cm and 14 cm and his weight around 150 grams. The bones are becoming hardened and motor functions are developing constantly allowing your baby to make controlled and conscious motions.

You can still feel a very strong sex drive and it’s perfectly safe to have sex during the second trimester so if this is your concern, then don’t worry! You skin can also get very sore.

Week 19

Your baby’s hearing is very good by now, his or her’s inner ear is fully developed and can tell sounds apart, especially your voice, so keep talking to your little one to create a special bond. Specialists say that calming and hushing after birth is much simpler for you because the baby recognizes your voice. Your baby is around 200 grams and 13 – 15 cm in size.

Your growing belly is probably putting some serious strain on our back and all the added weight doesn’t help. Backaches are common amongst pregnant women, try light exercise to keep the pain at bay.

Week 20

Wow, half of your pregnancy has just flown by! Your baby can definitely identify your voice and you already know whether you’re expecting a boy or a girl because of the ultrasounds. You should feel your baby moving even if you’re a first time mother.

You probably feel very good, you’re glowing and your skin is smooth without any acne. Your hair becomes thick. You may have gained about 10 – 15 pounds and your uterus is about the same level as your belly button.
