The beginning of something new is always a unique life experience. This absolutely strikes home when it comes to pregnancy. Every new mother is curious to know about the process. That’s why we prepared a series about the weeks of pregnancy.

After the previous periods, let’s continue with weeks 25 – 28.

Week 25

The seventh month of your pregnancy is here! Your baby can distinguish between sleeping and napping. He can also respond to stimuli from the outside of the belly. Your baby has around 700 grams and 22 centimeters. His body parts (head and body) are becoming proportional and his skin is being filled with body fat to make sure the change in temperature after birth is not such a shock to his little body.

You might experience something called the Braxton Hicks contractions or false labor. These contractions are irregular and vary in intensity but they do not mean the baby is coming. It’s just the uterus preparing by exercising the muscles. If you have any concerns, contact your doctor.

Week 26

Your baby has 23 centimeters in size and weighs almost 1 kilogram. Fat begins to accumulate under his skin but it remains reddish and wrinkled. He practices his sucking reflex, sucking his fingers and other parts of his body like his toe. He moves quite a lot in the womb, changing positions as well as moving his limbs.

Your skin might feel itchy due to the stretching from your increasingly bigger tummy – try rubbing it with lotion to ease the pain.

Week 27

The development of your baby’s eyes culminates and now he can open them. If you turn on the lights, your baby can react. He has around 24 cm and a little over a kilogram. The functions of the brain are more complex. Your baby’s favorite activity is sucking his toe now.

You may have gotten used to your body during the second trimester, but the changes that will come during the third may surprise you. This is the part of pregnancy most women consider uncomfortable. You’re carrying around about 15 – 20 pounds more and a full belly in front of you, it puts a strain on your back and feet which may swell up.

Week 28

Your last trimester starts right now! Are you excited to meet your baby in about 12 weeks’ time? This period will be difficult mentally as well as physically. In this period, you will gain about 5 – 10 pounds, your baby will gain about 6 pounds. This is the right time to buy comfortable clothes that will fit you until the end of your pregnancy as well as things you may need when the baby comes.
